International Battle Of The Year 2006 – The Soundtrack

BOTY 2006Since the first Battle Of The Year (BOTY) has taken place in 1990, the annual breathtaking competition of international dance formations has become THE world championship of breakdance. In 2006, more than 400 crews with more than 3.000 dancers took part in 26 official elimination contests worldwide to qualify for the final battle in Braunschweig, Germany.

To transport the diversity of the competition, the BOTY soundtrack includes various artists and styles: from classical Funk with live instruments to Oldschool Hip Hop with an electronic touch and modern House/Disco grooves.

Highlights on this album include Jay-Roc’s opener “Who” (taken from his debute album release “The B-Boy Hustle Album” – out now on Dominance as well), a stand out cover version of the alltime breakdance classic “The Mexican” (Babe Ruth, 1972) by DJ Hype, songs by Brisk Fingaz (producer for german rappers such as Kool Savas, Azad) and a member of the Jazzanova team – Sygaire, as well as the electrified contributions by the Dominance Records residents Dominance Crushing Crew and Dagobert.

“Mit einer Coverversion von Afrika Bambaataas “Planet Rock” schlägt ein dreiköpfiges DJ- und Produzententeam aus Hannover mächtige Wellen in der weltweiten Beatdigger-Community. Mr. Contuse, Info und Kova nennen sich die drei Musikfanatiker, die sich so sehr für die staubigen Samplequellen der Beats von Pete Rock. Prince Paul oder The Ummah interessierter» dass sie auch zu Spezialisten in Jazz. Funk. Soul, Latin‚ Bossanova Rock und Afrobeat wurden. “Wir sind zwar Kinder der Achtziger und mit HipHop von 1988 bis 1995 sozialisiert. lieben allerdings auch den Sound der späten Sechziger und frühen Siebziger‘. erklären sie ihre Einflüsse. “Wir beschäftigen uns mit allem, was uns gefallt. aktuell zum Beispiel mit Klassik und Balkan-folklore.” Als DJ-Crew spielen die drei einen Wildstyle-Breakbeatmix, als Produzenten arbeiten sie “mit einer gesunden Mischung aus Live-lnstrumenten. Plug-Ins und Samples, wobei Samples immer die Basis sind.”So wurde auch für das “Planet Rock-Cover zunächst eine Rohversion ausschließlich mit Versatzstücken aus dem Samplearchiv vorproduziert. “Damit sind wir dann von Proberaum zu Proberaum gezogen und haben die Musiker die einzelnen Lines von ‘Planet Rock’ drüberspielen lassen.
